Scoliidae

  Flower wasps. Large and densely hairy wasps. Legs adapted for digging, (fossorial).. Females dig into soil or wood for beetle larvae, on which they lay an egg. Distal section of wing with numerous longitudinal wrinkles. All Australian species belong to Scoliinae.    [25 Aust. species]
