  Rove Beetles. Predacious beetles preying on other insects. Characterized by shortened elytra such that much of the abdomen is exposed. Capable of flight with a complex folding mechanism to store the wings under the small elytra. Some species can emit a liquid that can cause skin blistering.     [1600 Aust. species]
