Meloidae

Elongate soft bodied beetles.  Head strongly constricted behind eyes. Prothorax narrowed anteriorly. Meloidae are parasitic on bees. Eggs are laid on flowers and the larvae (triungulin) attaches itself to the bee and is transported back to the nest. Later instars consume both bee larva and honey and nectar.    [60 Aust. species]  (Tenebrionoidea)
