Gyrinidae

  Whirligig Beetles. Generally streamlined appearance like Dysticidae but are readily recognized by the eyes which are divided into upper and lower portion by a strip of cuticle and by their habit of swimming on water surfaces. Antennae very short and compact. Hind legs short and paddle-like.     [25 Aust. species]
